This week’s meeting was jam packed!

President Grace presented DGE Louis with a birthday card from the Club, he celebrated his birthday on January 29th!

Desiree (spouse of Rotarian Fred) was pinned with the spouse pin by President Grace!

The majority of the spouses/partners received their pins at the Christmas Dinner Fellowship.

We also celebrated the 116th anniversary of Rotary by cutting a cake!

At our meeting we had Guest Speaker Psychologist Alexandra van Luijken-Halley who spoke to us about “You and your awareness, a short introduction to trauma psychology and EMDR”

Alexandra started by explaining that we live our lives either in the “driven autopilot mode” or in the “being mode”. And when we are dealing with very painful and impactful events, the solution of our system is to split ourselves in the personality and identity structure.

We isolate the pain and in order not to feel that avoidance strategy comes to play. In order to heal, pain has to be processed.

One of the effective therapies available to allow this process to take place is EMDR. The EMDR approach is based on that, past emotionally charged experiences are overly influencing your present emotions, sensations and thoughts about yourself.

EMDR uses rapid sets of eye movements to help you update disturbing experiences, much like what occurs when we sleep. During sleep the REM (rapid eye movement) phase of the sleep helps you process things that are troubling you.

President Grace presented Alexandra with a token of appreciation after her presentation! The presentation was very interesting and encouraged a lot of questions and discussions!
