On July 14th 2026, the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle held its first General Meeting for the New Rotary Year! Guest speakers Iesha Harrigan & Ivy Lambert spoke about Disaster Preparedness and Community Resilience
We had a full house for the first meeting for the new Rotary Year!
The Happy Birthday song was sung in many different languages for Past President Jon!
Sergeant at Arms Wayne introduced all guests and Rotarians present from the various clubs on the island
Secretary James of the Rotary Club of St Maarten said the following Wednesday they would have their first general meeting and invited everyone to join. They will have a mid wife named Mandy speaking about postpartum depression, new born care etc.
President Jina of the Rotary Club of St Martin Sunrise spoke about an information session they will be hosting at USM with Orlando Simon who is a mid wife.
President Jade of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset spoke about their baby basket project which they will be assembling and handing out. Some items in the basket would be: Pampers, Wipes, Lotion and Shampoo etc.
The cost is about $100.00 per care package.
Rotarian Natalie introduced the guest speakers Ivy Lambert and Iesha Harrigan who would be speaking about Disaster Preparedness and Community Resilience.
The island has a multi hazard risk profile: tropical cyclones, seismic activity and slope instability.
Sint Maarten’s unique geography has low lying coastal land and steep hillsides making flash floods and sea surges our most recurrent hazard.
Disaster Org. Structure:
1. Command and Policy which is led by the Prime Minister
2. Strategic Operations (the Emergency Operations Center)
How Rotarians can help:
Preparing together, by mobilizing private resources, organizing district level aid distribution centers etc. which protects families on the island and accelerate economic recovery.
Home Resilience Plan:
- Wind Resistant Envelope : secure storm shutters and check roof structural points, etc.
- 72 Hour Survival Kit which includes 1 gallon of water per person daily, non perishable foods, prescription medication etc
- Drainage and Surroundings: regularly check perimeter gutters, clear neighboring debris rtc
- Secured Digital Archive: Keep hard and digital copies of IDs, Passports, Deed registries, Insurance Policies etc

Towards the end of the meeting, a cake was cut by President Grace & Immediate Past President Esme to celebrate the start of the New Rotary Year!
