Leonald Conner Primary School gets a newly repaired gazebo.
Leonald Conner Primary School pupils can once again enjoy the cool shade of its gazebo which was officially handed over during a small ceremony on  Friday, January 21st. The gazebo was heavily damaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017 and no longer provided the welcome shade pupils enjoyed. Dr. Johan Henk Andre Bolhuis, past president of the Dutch Olympic Committee/ Dutch Sports Federation NOC/ NSF, provided the necessary funds to complete the repairs.
Dr. Bolhuis was first introduced to the project by IPP/ Service Projects Chair Grace Linger from the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten- Mid Isle in 2021. He had made a donation of light bulbs for Raoul Illidge Sports Complex three years ago. With remaining funds from this project, he wanted to make more contributions to the community. When he learnt about the damage the school had received during the passing of Hurricane Irma and the still damaged gazebo, he took on the project. The repairs were carried out and completed by Total Construction. This included structural repairs and a new roof.

The school manager, Ms. Alice Samuel  on behalf of staff and pupils, thanked Dr. Bolhuis for this kind gesture for the school during the small ceremony. The Public Education Division  Acting Head Mr. Daison Marks on behalf of the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport also extended his gratitude  to Dr. Bolhuis seeing and meeting the needs of the children.
A small group of Leonald Conner School pupils closed the event by singing a " Thank you" song.
