SDHS Interact Club and IB Students raise funds for the Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund,

After Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas on September 1ST, 2019 as a Category 5 hurricane, and the students of the St. Dominic High School (SDHS) saw the devastation to the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama, they wanted to reach out to help those 700,000 individuals that had been displaced, as they understood the need after having experienced Hurricane Irma in 2017.

The students of the Interact Club contacted their sponsor club, The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle to see how best they could help. It was agreed that they would raise funds to add to those funds already being collected by the seven Rotary Clubs on St. Maarten/St Martin, Anguilla and St. Barth’s for the Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund.

The Interact Club of the St. Dominic High School and the students of the International Baccalaureate collected donations from within the school and in a few days had raised a grand total of USD 753.34 toward the Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund. The students also decided to host a white shirt day and asked each student to donate USD 1.00 each to the fund, this initiative brought in USD 387.00 bringing their grand total to over USD 1,100.00 for the Bahamas Disaster Relief fund.

Special thanks go out to the students and staff of the St. Dominic High School for their generous contributions and for their outstanding efforts in fundraising for this cause.

It was reported on Monday, September 23rd the Rotary Clubs have thus far contributed USD 19,198.62 and counting to the Disaster Relief Fund in the Bahamas from fellow Rotarians. The Rotary Clubs of St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barth’s and Anguilla would like to express their sincere gratitude to the general public, who have supported their various projects and initiatives locally. We are now calling on the people in our region to stand with Rotary, one of the world’s most trusted charity organizations, and support us in our humanitarian efforts.
