At our Weekly Meeting of July 13th, we had PAG Mike Terrelonge as our Guest Speaker, and his topic was “Disaster Preparedness for Rotary Clubs”.
PAG Mike is the District Disaster Management Committee Chair since 2017. Mike started with what District 7020’s disaster preparedness goals are;
  • Every D7020 club has a Disaster Plan & a club chair/committee
  • Assist D7020 in being prepared & responding to disasters.
PAG Mike shared why it is important that we prepare, and what are some of the risks that we are facing; earthquakes, hurricanes, pandemics, floods, volcanoes, industrial accidents, personal/home risks.
We prepare by making Personal/ Family Disaster Plans, Rotary Club Disaster Plan and Team, we keep in contact with First Responders and we respond to District Disaster Initiatives.
D7020 has a long history of helping in disasters:
•Committed District senior leadership +
• District Disaster Fund
• Funded in part from club district dues
• District/Regional disaster focus – Caribbean wide (focus Dorian response, Covid, St Vincent volcano, greater Rotary regional collaboration)
• Recovery project management
• Recovery Project Information APP
• Disaster Preparedness Committee, Club Disaster plans, facilitation
• Partners – Rotary International, DNA RAG & non- Rotary partners.
Mike also shared about the important Disaster Relief Roles of the Club President, the Disaster Relief Chair and the Assistant Governors. Lastly, he shared the plans going forward in 2021-2022
At the end of the presentation PAG Mike was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for his informational presentation by Pres. Wayne on behalf of the club.
