At our weekly meeting on Tuesday January 26th, Laura Pincus- Hartman was our guest speaker. Laura shared about ‘The Grant giving process- from the grantor’s perspective’. Laura explained that the most important part of a grant is the Mission. If you are not clear on your mission, then your grant applicants also will not be clear (and will make your job harder).
Laura indicated that communication and which approaches do you welcome, are equally important. When dealing with Grant Applications, only ask for information that is necessary for your decision.
During the Grant Evaluation, you will need to choose with which organizations you wish to partner to achieve your goals. Their project goals might sound great!
But if they have no realistic plan to evaluate it and to demonstrate their impact, you will never know whether you ever did achieve that goal. . .

Furthermore, the Grantor should also look for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Specific (S.M.A.R.T) goals.
Reporting is always a balance of responsibilities, that has to be done by both the Grantor and the Grantee.
All and all, this was a very enlightening presentation.
At the end Laura was presented with  a token of appreciation for sharing such valuable knowledge with us.
