On July 29th 2025, The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle held it's General Meeting at Melange Restaurant with Guest Speaker Ivanca Sterling from CPS who spoke about Healthy Mothers, Healthy Futures!

We had a full house at our last general meeting!

Past District Governor Louis along with Rotarians and guests present sang the Birthday songs in many languages for President Esmeralde! 🎤 🎉

Past President Grace introduced our Guest Speaker Ivanca Sterling from Collective Prevention Services who spoke about Healthy Mothers, Healthy Futures.

The meeting was lively and interactive!

Ivanca spoke about their objectives which are:
- Promote the health and well being of mothers and children across their life
- Support healthy pregnancies
- Encourage reproductive health and family planning
- Addressing health concerns affecting our population

It was also mentioned that some women are traumatized after giving birth and it can lead to postpartum depression especially if there’s no support, no financial support, etc.

The way CPS supports parents after delivery is that they ask the mothers to come in for their first visit after 2 weeks to the baby clinic. And there they can give information on breast feeding, etc.

The baby can be monitored with regular check ins with CPS where they monitor child development and signaling of delays. They also provide mental health support for mothers. And encourage family, workplace and community support systems.

They have noticed the “COVID” babies use more electronics which can cause eye problems and affect their development (for example: their speech)

It is encouraged that parents who are recommended to a pediatrician to follow up as this can cause issues in school. An example being, that a child is labeled troublesome but there could be an underlying factor that perhaps they cannot see from a far distance, etc.

CPS provides Bump to Baby 101 sessions every two months. The next session starts back in September.

World Breast Feeding Week starts from 1st August, and there are a lot of activities and information sessions planned by CPS like:
- Walk for moms and dads
- Sip ‘n’ Paint
- Story time at the white yellow cross chapel
- Reading time at the library
- 9th August: Moms Fair at Belair Community Center from 4pm to 7pm

Towards the end of the meeting President Esmeralde presented Ivanca with a certificate of appreciation!
