Past President Yvette read to the students of the Prins Willem Alexander School (Class 5)!
PP Yvette said this about her experience with the students:
I asked the principal of the school and the class teacher for books depicting Caribbean and / or local culture and heritage. In this way, the students can understand how important local and Caribbean culture is intertwined with each other.
The children interacted very well with both stories as I involved them to see themselves in the characters in both books in order to understand how it felt to the storyteller. If I came across difficult or unknown words, I asked them if they understood what the word meant. If not, I would explain the meaning or the interpretation of the words. I also told them anytime they came across difficult words, to look them up in a dictionary, as this will help them to understand the words, how to pronounce the words, and how to use them in a sentence.
The books I read teach them to look out for family, friends, neighbors, and each other. To stand up for what is right. Don't fight back physically, but stand up for each other when bullied.
I had a wonderful time. So did they and the teacher.❤️
Thank you to PP Yvette for the above information!
